AIRPORT COSTS
County Support Proposed
No ratepayers in the counties, surrounding Christchurch would object if a “slight levy” was made in their rates towards the cost of running Christchurch Airport, Mr A. R. Blank claimed at a meeting of the Canterbury Progress League last evening. “Heathcote, Waimairi and all the other counties enjoy the use of the airport,” said Mr Blank, "but they pay nothing towards it.
“The City Council may be only too happy to receive money from the counties.”
Mr H. E. Radley said he believed the airport was now being operated at a profit, and that Mr Blank’s proposal was too late.
The league agreed to give whole-hearted support to the City Council in its efforts to obtain jet-size runways at Harewood.
