Sir.—Mr McAlpine, in opening the election campaign for the National Party, characterises the cotton mill agreement made by Laibour as a stupid blunder. Let us see how many stupid blunders National made in repudiating that agreement. They ruin our credit with British cap- tai. Tliey callously ignore British labour and certainly will make it more difficult to get immigrants from Britain. They pay blatant lip service to Empire and toss over British capital and labour as a sop to Asiatics to buy a miserable pittance of our wool end meat They turn down an industry that would have u<ed the power produced in the South Island and commit the country to an expenditure of upwards £3O million to carry power across Cook Strait. They were "quite happy” with the agreement and abjectly dither when pressure is applied by greedy importers (and exporters?) —■ Yours, A. F PALMER ' Waimete, February 19. 1962.
