Women’s Cricket MARY MACHIN SHIELD

Canterbury In Good Form

“The Press" Special Service INVERCARGILL Feb. 20. Canterbury has a good chance of winning the Mary Machin Shield for women’s cricket, being contested at Queen’s Park. Invercargill. Although the team lost to Southland yesterday, it convincingly beat Otago by an innings and 13 runs today. Southland needs an outright win tomorrow to retain the shield.

Fielding first. Canterbury bundled out Otago for 50 runs. The bowling of J. Cockle, who took five wickets for 15, proved too good for the Otago batswomen. Scoring honours went to J. Wilson, with a sound 32. and Canterbury finally declared at 110 runs for seven. Otago made no better showing in its second innings, due to some fine bowling by Dickinson, whose five wickets cost only one run, and the side was all out for 47. Scores were:
