86-YEAR-OLD WALKER

Mount Egmont Climb ( N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Feb 20. Mount Egmont created a slight diversion for 86-year-old walker Mr A H. Reed, of Dunedin, today. He continued his walk from East Cape to Cape Egmont and climbed the 8280 ft peak on the way

Mr Reed completed the climb and had descended to the Kabui hut on the western slopes at 6 p.m. He was accompanied by the lessee of the Stratford Mountain House. Mr A. L. Mace, and by Mr J Taylor. They left the house at 7 40 a m. Mr Mace signalled the party's progress during the climb with a mirror to observers.

Tomorrow the party will leave the Kahui hut and Mr Reed will continue to Cape Egmon’. which he expects to reach that day. Af'er spending two davs at New Plymouth. Mr Reed will return to Dunedin to write a book on his latest journey.
