CONTAINERS FOR BEER

Plastic Jars Unsuitable (N.Z Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 20. Plastic jars are not suitable containers for beer. The plastic allows the passage of gases through it and beer put in the flagon in the morning would be flat by the afternoon. This was stated by the Food Division of the DS.IB. in answer to an inquiry today. The inquiry was prompted by the discussion recently at an executive meeting of the South Canterbury branch of Federated Fanners. The meeting endorsed a remit to the Dominion council that beer containers should be of plastic to help keep broken glass off the roads. Wellington hotelkeepers interviewed today said that some time ago there had been a brief vogue of plastic flagons, but customers complained that they were not satisfactory for the storage of beer.
