South Hagley Park
Sir.—Rural people are being urged to set up civil defence organisations, and part of this work envisages, if necessary, the evacuation and care of our city folk into rural areas. It is hard going to create enthusiasm, but I am certain that if the need really came country folk would rise to the occasion. The decision of our city fathers on the parking problem at Addington on sale days does not help, and the farming community of Canterbury expects something better from them. As the rural people depend on the saleyards for their market, so does the city depend on the country for its sustenance. Could we have more co-operation and goodwill, and less distinction between recreational and socalled commercial parking?— Yours, etc., E. J. STALKER. February 11, 1962.
