Eighth-Round Games In Suburban Contest

The eighth-round suburban cricket games began on Saturday in perfect conditions.

Waltham, playing Beckenham, its closest rival for championship honours, dismissed the opposition for 144, with N. Davidson in good form scoring 42. P. Butler scored a quick 26, including four fours and one six. J. Moorhead and A. Burgess each claimed four wickets. Waltham had lost three wickets for 62 at close of Play. Papanui occupied the crease all afternoon and was all out just before stumps, for 235. N. Neilson headed the batting with a well-made 96.

The Matchless v. Sumner game saw high scoring, the former team showing much improvement to total 239. B. Anderson, in scoring 97, notched 70 of his runs in boundaries. Sumner, in reply, began well with 100 for two wickets.
