South Hagley Park

Sir,—The letter of “Agricola” is one more illustration of the would-be corrector being himself in the wrong, as I proved today by revisiting the corner of Deans avenue and Blenheim road. This is what I found: (1) a half-tumbled-down wooden fence fitted with one-time wooden doors, all so “iffy” that a puff of a bulldozer could flatten the lot. (2) Inside the fence, an area 30 yards by eight yards, just a shambles, and no pens at all there. (3) Outside the fence, a very rough, stony path, 12 feet wide, which, added to the eight yards, could have easily given the 30 feet necessary for widening. (4) On the Hagley Park side, rough heaps of stones and ugly clods left to completely ruin the beautiful avenue between the trees.—Yours, etc., R. M THOMSON February 6, 1962
