MILFORD TRACK
Brown Family’s
Connexion
When Mr D. G. W. Brown, of Invercargill, took over the management of Glade House, the accommodation house at the Lake Te Anau end of the Milford track, he was following in the footsteps of his two brothers, who have been closely connected with the track since 1946. Now, however, Mr Brown has a bigger stake in the track than either of his brothers. His wife and his son and daughter have joined him there
The manageress of Glade House is Mrs D. G. W. Brown, and Miss N. Brown is her assistant. Mr C. C. Brown looks after the transport of stores over the half-mile from the landing on Lake Te Anau to the accommodation house. Meanwhile, Mr Brown’s brothers have not deserted the track. Mr C. L. Brown is in charge of the Ministry of Works contracting gang which is putting through a tractor road from Glade House to Six-Mile hut. while Mr J. A. Brown, of Te Anau, who was for many years track foreman, still walks over it several times in the season to give advice for its maintenance and improvement. Last year he rebuilt seven miles of telephone line from Quintin huts to Lake Mintaro.
