Marathon POTTS WINS OTAGO RACE
Fast Time In Strong Winds
(N.Z Press Association) DUNEDIN. February 1. A. Potts ran a sensational 2hr 25min 57sec marathon to win the provincial title tonight. In his first race over the gruelling nesr 264-mile course. Potts compared very favourably with the efforts of the throe 1960 Olympic representatives R L. Pucket. A. B. Magee, and J. Tulian who filled the first three places In the New Zealsnd title race on the same course in March 1960 Pucket ran the then fastest national Utle time of 2hr 23mIn IJSsec Magee did 2hr 25min st sec. and Julian 2hr Zimin 4sec. Potts bad to contend with gale-force winds but was fresh enough to break Into a sprint as he entered the Caledonian Ground to complete the last lap of the track.
