AIR TRAFFIC FALLS
N.A.C. To Cut Some Flights
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 7. The New Zealand National Airways Corporation is to cut flights on some of its services because of a drop in passenger traffic over the last three months. The chairman of directors of N.A.C., Sir Leonard Isitt, said in a supplied statement today: “Corporation traffic, which followed a pattern of increase for many years, has fallen short of expectations over the last three months, and a point has been reached where the prudent course of matching the public demand with a sufficient number and frequency of services has to be followed.
“The corporation considers the present lull in business a temporary one largely associated with' the general economic tightening of the public purse. No useful purpose is served in continuing all services at the same high level of frequency Steps have been taken, therefore, to trim the frequencies of some less-patronised services, but only where public convenience is not seriously disturbed.’’ said the statement. “The reduced services which affect the published timetable operating trom February 25 to May 22. will become effective on February 26 Bookings made ahead on the services affected are small, and transfers to other flights will be few In al] cases where this occurs, N.A.C branch offices are already making adjusted flight arrangements with passengers concerned.”
