“INSULT” BY FOREMAN
Workers Go Home (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, February 7. Management and union representatives will meet tomorrow to discuss a stopwork action by freezing chamber hands at the Otahuhu works of R. and W. Hellaby, Ltd., due to an allegedly insulting remark made by a foreman to a union delegate. The remark was supposedly passed on Tuesday afternoon and the 150 chamber hands held a stopwork meeting and decided to go home until an apology was received. In an official statement from the company, a spokesman said tonight the firm was satisfied that the particular remark attributed to the foreman concerned was not, in fact. made.
“However, in order to get a speedy resumption of work and to avoid any hold-up in export killing, which are still under considerable pressure due to dry weather in certain parts of the province, the company has offered to treat the matter under the terms of the award as a dispute.” the spokesman said.
