MEETING OF PREMIERS
P.M. Opposes Suggestion
( N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 7. “This would certainly not be the most profitable time for a Commonwealth Prime Ministers’ conference,” said the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) at bis press conference tonight. He had been asked to comment on the cabled report of the remarks of the British Prime Minister, Mr Macmillan, who said that he would be the first to welcome a meeting of Commonwealth Prime Ministers on the Common Market if it was thought desirable. Mr Holyoake said: “I can only say again that we are in constant and close consultation with the British Government at all levels. At this stage, I can only concur with the statement made by Mr Macmillan. New Zealand will, of course, lose no time in pressing for an immediate Commonwealth Prime Ministers’ conference when we consider the time to be opportune and likely to be profitable. ‘‘The negotiations for Britain’s entry to the European Common Market are not far enough advanced to make a decision," he added.
