Reports Of Arrest
Reports are circulating in London that the Gov-ernor-General of Ceylon. Sir Oliver Goonetilleke (above) has been arrested. according to the "Daily Mail.”
He was said to have been arrested after last week-end's attempted coup against the Prime Minister (Mrs Bandaranaike). Officials in Whitehall were cautious about the reports, said the "Daily Mail.” Reuter reported from New Delhi that police in southern India were searching today for RearAdmiral Royce de Mel, the retired Commander of the Ceylonese Navy, who is wanted by Ceylon for alleged complicity in the abortive coup. The Ceylon Government said it thought Admiral de Mel crossed the border to India in a smuggler’s boat on the night of January 31. Admiral de Mel retired a year ago. —London. February 3.
