AUCKLAND. February 4. J E. Robson, the former New Zealand champion, staked a claim for inclusion in this year s Davis Cup team by beating the 18-year-old Waikato player. I Crookenden. in the men’s singles final of the Auckland championships at Stanley street on Saturday. Robson. wtio was approached earlier in the season by the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association, has still not announced whether he will be available. Robson always had control over the power play of his opponent, a member of last year’s Davis Cup side, and was able to dictate play at all stages to win in three sets, 6-4. 6-4, 6-4. Sixth Success

This victory gave Robson his sixth Auckland singles title. Later, he teamed up with his wife. Heather, to take the mixed doubles title

—their fourth victory in this event—but was defeated in the men’s doubles. Women's Singles.—Mrs H. Robson beat Miss P. Belton. 4-6. 6-3.'7-5 Men’s Doubles.—J. B. Souter and R. Hawkes beat Robson and A. S. Bums, 4-6, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5. 6-3.

Women’s Doubles—Mrs Robson and Miss R. Morrison beat Miss Belton and Mrs F. Lobb. 6-1. 6-2. Mixed Doubles—Robson and Mrs Robson beat Hawkes and Miss Belton, 8-10, 6-0, 6-3.
