IMPLICATIONS OF E.E.C.
Meat Board Member Optimistic
“The E.E.C. has tremendous implications, but 1, personally, am not so pessimistic about the situation,” said Mr C. Hilgendorf, a member of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, speaking at the MidCanterbury export lamb competition held at the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company’s Fairfield works yesterday. Mr Hilgendorf said he thought Britain would join the Common Market. It was his opinion that with rapidly rising production. New Zealand would have to look for new markets in any case. Although he did not think this country would export millions of lambs to America, he was not pessimistic about the market situation. Given the right set of circumstances, he said. New Zealand could sell lambs over a wide area and in this respect the Meat Export Company was a big help.
