COURTESY FILM POPULAR

Special Public Screening

The telephone courtesy film “A Manner of Speaking.” being screened this week as part of the observance of Telephone Courtesy Week, has proved so popular that the Civic Theatre has been engaged for Friday afternoon to make a special public showing. Bookings for the Municipal Electricity Department theatrette are already full for today, tomorrow and Thursday, and only a few vacancies for business firm employees are still available for Friday morning. All showings are free, including that in the Civic Theatre. Last evening, the Mayor (Mr G. Manning) performed the official opening of the courtesy week in a function at the Council Chambers, attended by a representative gathering of business executives. The film was then shown, after which the chairman of the City Council finance committee (Cr. H. P. Smith) said that all the heads of council departments would attend the film, and that it might be seen also by other council employees. Telephone Courtesy Week is sponsored jointly by the Post Office and the Canterbury Public Relations Office.
