Rough Game At Auckland
(NJ!. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept, 3. The Queensland hockey Inside-right, J. Graham, was temporarily ordered off when Queensland drew witl. Auckland, 3-3, at Hobson Park on Saturday in a rough game. With Auckland trying to . reduce a 2-3 deficit and Queensland trying to enlarge It, some fierce clashes of sticks were seen in front of goal. The Queensland centre-half, S. Slade, received a warning. Auckland produced the equalising goal, and minutes later the Queenslander R. Sheldon had to retire with an ankle injury. Thei) it was that Graham made a strong run and was obstructed ,by the Auckland defence. His stick struck B. R. Whineray, the Auckland full-hack and captain who had appeared in front of Graham. Whinerary left the field with blood streaming from his head and Graham was suspended for five minutes. K. Wagstaff, the Auckland inside-right, received a slash across his ankle which had the crowd demanding another suspension. Efforts in the remaining minutes were concentrated on a winning goal. No goal came but some brilliant shots and hectic moments in front of gbal produced a memorable finish. The Queensland goals were scored by Graham, A. Stevens and M. Pirie. Those for Auckland came from N. Hayde, K. Wagstaff, and I. Free. The half-time score was 2-2.
