BALLOON’S TRIP
Cut Free By Hooligans (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept 3. A large multi-coloured balloon took an unscheduled trip across the upper Waitemata harbour some time on Saturday night. Earlier the same evening, a housing contractor had floated the balloon over a housing exhibition in Great North road, Henderson. Next morning, it was gone. After inquiries, the balloon was found at Glenfield, tangled in some trees. With two traffic officers for an escort, the contractor tied the 40ft by 20ft balloon to his car, and towed it back to Henderson. The police believe that hooligans cut the balloon's ropes a't the housing exhibition. The act <x>uld have had serious consequences, they said, as the path taken by the drifting balloon lay across the aircraft approach route to Whenuapai.
