SOVIET BOMB TESTS

Protest Letters To Ambassadors The Christ.churoh branch of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament has written to the Soviet Ambassador to New Zealand and to the United States Ambassador on Russia’s decision to resume nuclear testing. The letter to the Russian Ambassador says: “People everywhere will feel dismay at the action of the Russian Government which so abruptly breaks off the Geneva discussions on a nuclear test ban, and leads the way to an intensified arms race. Our hopes are for peace, but such an arms race only makes more likely the outbreak of nuclear war, by accident or miscalculation, or by the further spread ofnuclear weapons.” To the United States Ambassador the society said it appealed to his Government not to follow the Russians. “We consider that nuclear testing by any nation is a threat to the health and security of mankind, and that it cannot possibly guarantee the peace,” said the letter.
