NEW SERVICE LINK PLANNED
New Hebrides And New Zealand “The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND. August 31. A service between New Zealand and the New Hebrides will be started by the Northern Steamship Company, of Auckland. The frequency of the service has yet to be decided. The Northern Company has a new ship, the Moanut. leaving Honk Kong for New Zealand on September 9 and another will be delivered next June. The Moanui. of 1500 tons. 236 feet long and with a 36-foot beam has bipod masts which will give dear deck space and make the ship suitable for carrying such cargoes as timber. The New Hebrides, a condominium jointly administered by Britain and France, consists of about 80 islands stretching over an area of about 460 miles. The population of the group at the last census was about 49.000 natives, 1800 French. 2000 Tonkinese under French jurisdiction. and 500 British. The group has fotlr good harbours, .including one at Vila, the headquarters of the administration. -
