PROPAGANDA CAMPAIGN

During the last 24 hours the Russian peqple had been subjected to one of the most massive campaigns of “jingoistic” propaganda since the war, the “Daily Telegraph” reported. Press and radio had poured out propaganda to give the impression the West was preparing war against Russia, the report said. Broadcasters had tried to whip up patriotic feelings and assured the West of “crushing retaliation.’: In Moscow today, the Soviet Communist Party newspaper “Pravda” said: “Ominous war clouds are, swirling over the approaches to the sacred borders of our homeland.” The “Pravda” editorial said: “The Soviet Union is sparing no effort to have thequestion of a peace treaty with Germany settled by mutual agreement and by taking into account the legitimate interests of all parties “However, instead of listening to the voice of reason, the ruling circles of the Western Powers have adopted an attitude of dictation and threats.

“During the last few months the world has witnessed an unprecedented orgy of militarism in the United States. Western Germany and other countries of the North Atlaptic bloc. The armaments race has assumed an unprecedented rate.

“It suffices to say that this

year the United States will spend more on armaments' than in the last year of the Korean War. , “Washington has already taken a number of measures to increase the size of its armed forces. Reactionary propaganda is using every means at its disposal to create a war psychosis. Frantic imperialist circles are openly threatening us with war.”
