“SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR”
Trophy Presented To P. Rennell Tributes to the sportsmanship of the captain of the Nomads soccer team, P. Rennell, were paid by Mr J. Smith, president of the Canterbury Football Association, when he presented the association’s “Sportsman of the Year” troplhy to Rennell at English Park on Saturday afternoon. “Paul Rennell has richly deserved to win this trophy,” said Mr Smith. “Ever since he has been playing football, Rennell has been a fine sportsman on and Off the field.” This trophy, which is awarded on the votes of soccer writers reporting club matches, was presented to the Canterbury Football Association in 1955. Winners have been: 1955, P. Fletcher (Shamrock); 1956. J. Callaghan (Shamrock); 1957, A. Laffey (Western); 1958, P. Devin (City): 1959, A Laffey (Western); 1960, E. Charlton (Technical).
