TWO SAFES TAKEN

One Found In Van (N2. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. 3. A safe containing about £5OO in cash and some cheques was stolen from the Ohaeawai Hotel early this morning or late on Saturday night. Detectives said the safe was removed from the office of the licensee. It was made of steel and weighed about 3ewt. At Frankton on Saturday night thieves stole a safe weighing between 4cwt and scwt from the Royal Butchery. Police later found it unopened in a van which had been abandoned at Hamilton. It held only £lO to £l5 in silver. The owner of this safe. Mr B. A. Howard, said it was “an iron monster” 4ft Bin in height and 3ft Bin wide He could not understand how the thieves had got the safe into the van. He did not know how he was going to get it back into the shop.
