Umlaut The Government Printing Office is helping the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Gotzi to convince people that his name is pronounced “Gerts” and not “Gots” and that his Christian name of Leon is pronounced “Layon.” Mr Gotz’s office has a typewriter with a special key fitted enabling two dots—known as an umlaut—to be placed over the "o” in his surname. Now the Government Printing Office’s linotype and monotype machines have been altered to enable the “e” in Leon to have an acute accent mark, and the “o” to have its umlaut. This week’s Gazette contained the new printing in a notice under the Minister’s signature. He is recovering in Sydney Hospital. He told police through an interpreter that he had been on his way to catch a ship to the United States and could not get out of the residential building because the doors were locked.
