No Action Taken

Newcastle Jockey Club stewards created a precedent today when they did not disqualify Heroic Victory winner of the Newmarket Handicap, at Newcastle on May 1. Newcastle Jockey Club chief steward, Mr R. Dawbarn, at the end of an inquiry into a positive swab taken from Heroic Victory after the race, said no action would be taken. This means that placings in the £2OOO Newmarket Handicap will remain unaltered, with Heroic Victory first. Voyage second and Double Brace third.

No action was taken against the owners. Mr W. and Mr W. J. Clinton, who will be paid the £l5OO first prize and £lOO trophy. The trainer, Harold Shard, was reprimanded for not taking proper care in checking the substance injected into Heroic Victory before the race. Heroic Victory returned a positive procaine swab. At the inquiry, last week. Shard said he had treated Heroic Victory with penicillin for a leg injury two days before the race. He had not known there was procaine in the penicillin. The Australian Jockey Club veterinarian. Mr W. J. McFadden, said the percentage of procaine present in the sample submitted was not enough to affect a horse's speed, stamina, courage or conduct
