CAR STRIKES POLE

Power Off For Two Hours

A car travelling north along Bridle Path road was extensively damaged when it struck a power pole about 60 yards north of Martindale road about 7 p.m. yesterday. The two occupants, a man and a woman, suffered only minor injuries. The power pole was knocked out of alignment and wires were broken, causing a power breakdown to houses in the vicinity which lasted for about two hours and a half. Two members of the Heathcote County Council’s electricity branch restored power to normal by about 10.10 p.m.

The driver of the car. Mr Ivan Hristoff Stroykoff, aged 36. of 374 Madras street, suffered minor facial lacerations. His companion. Mrs Stephane Grego, aged 27. of 29 Devon street, suffered lacerations to her head and legs.

Mrs Grego was treated at the Christchurch Public Hospital and sent home.
