Benmore Line Alive Tomorrow

Electricity will be sent through the Benmore transmission lines between Geraldine and Islington tomorrow but not from Benmore hydro. The Benmore line is being' livened with power generated at Roxburgh and switched into the new circuit. The Benmore line, consisting of 220 k.v. twin-conductor transmission lines, will be cut in north of Geraldine, and will leave the existing Roxburgh line dead to enable its conversion from a single-conductor line to a twin-conductor line. This work will increase the transmission line capacity In the South Island.

The Benmore-Islington line is expected to be carrying .power generated at Benmore itself by the winter of 1965.
