NO PROMOTION THIS YEAR

Lazy, Difficult Pupils iNew Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 9. Pupils at Takapuna Grammar School whose work was not up to the standard required for more advanced, study would not be promoted this year, said the headmaster (Mr C. H Sayers). This is not the practice followed in the majority of State schools, where automatic age-pro-motion prevails. “We believe this move to be a sound one,” said Mr Sayers. “The decisions will be based not so much on a pupil’s lack of ability as on his unwillingness to work and consistent bad behaviour.”

Some pupils, understanding that they would be promoted whether they worked or not, developed a bad attitude towards work and wasted the time of their teachers.
