Advice To Teachers
Sir, —How very laudable are the sentiments expressed by Mr T. M. Archer, superintendent l of education, when he says that teachers must be “tension-free.” It is all very well for a senior officer to talk such soothing words from his comfortable departmental chair. Is he aware that the greatest cause of tension among primary teachers is the outmoded primary school inspection system? In spite of platitudes and smooth talk, the sole purpose of primary school inspectors is to grade teachers, and no-one, least of all teachers themselves, will deny that the resultant tension and dissatisfaction inherent in the system is one of the causes of the present teacher shortage.— Yours, etc., HIGH PRESSURE.
