The Labour Government
Sir,—The leading article on ’the defeat of the Labour Government is misleading. The National Party’s win is mainly due to superb organisation, helped by the Constitutional Society, and by both the National and Social Credit incorporating Labour’s socialist policy,' plus the 3 per cent, interest on loans, and using it against the Labour Government to put it out of office. Lastly, for three years the New Zealand newspapers have waged a tirade of abuse against the Labour Government and individual members. The public mind has been well conditioned to return a National Government. Our newspapers will now lull us into a false sense of “all is well.” The public can expect to awake, as before, to another chaotic political muddle, caused by the Nationalists’ uneven distribution of the national income in this age of new ideas, political reforms, and reconciliations.— Yours, etc.,
