Campbell will ■ live in Edinburgh, and he has 1 already contracted to ride on ; the speedway for the Edin- ; burgh Monarchs, who com- ■ pete on the world’s oldest ; speedway track. Campbell ; said this week his future ■ plans were uncertain—“last ! time I left New Zealand for ; England I meant to be away ; for nine months, but it turned ; out to be ten years.” -S’ ; Tomorrow great interest ! will centre in the “Little i Ardmore” motor race meeting ;to be held in Auckland. ; Organised as a work-out for ! local drivers before the New ; Zealand Grand Prix, this ; meeting consists of short ' races, with the main event for ! the fastest 15 racing and ; sports cars in practice, and ; covering only 20 miles. L. ; Bowden will be greatly ; mourned by members of the ! Ashburton Car Club. Times were not par- ] ticularly good, since the cars ; were only timed one way-and ; had to contend with a strong 1 south-easterly wind. The ! best performance of the day ! was by B. T. Whyte (T.R.3), ; who recorded 18.955ec, 18.9 sec ; and 18.85 sec on three consecu- ' tive runs. The fastest of the ' saloon cars was G. Dolan’s ! Sunbeam Rapier with a time ' of 23.1 sec. B. Lloyd (Zephyr) made two runs of 23.255ec ■ and 23.155ec. 4Heavy rain which ’ fell last Saturday made the eight-hour rally held by the Forces Motoring Club ; more of a mud ! bath than a i . motoring com»petition. Only ; two cars fin- \ ished the i course, and ; the winner was M. A. White-Johnson driving a I Citroen I.D. 19 WhiteJohnson has been the most successful Canterbury rallyist in recent months, having also had a good win in the gold star rally held by the Canterbury Car Club in October. Second place in the rally on Saturday was taken by N. J. Mahoney (Volkswagen). <■ 4- 4As a result of their achievements over several years and, particularly their win in this year’s Liege-Rome-Liege rally, the two British women drivers, :; Pat Moss and Ann Wisdom ’; have been awarded the Guild : i of Motoring Writers Driver of I; the Year trophy.
