ATTEMPT AT RECORD
Ordeal Fails On Easy Track
Ordeal failed in her attempt to lower Dictation’s track record of 2min 7 2-ssec for one mile in a special time trial at New Brighton on Saturday. She recorded 2min llsec, a remarkable effort on the rain-affected track.
She sped over the first quarter in 31 l-ssec, half-mile in Imin 1 l-ssec. and six furlongs in about Imin 33 l-ssec. Not surprisingly, she began to feel the strain on straightening up and she was stooping badly at the furlong. Ordeal was driven by her trainer, F. G. Holmes, and had the assistance of a galloping pacemaker, Linda Stirling, driven by G. Holmes.
Had the track been in reasonable order, there is little doubt that Ordeal would have broken the record by a substantial margin.
