Competitions At Dunedin mew Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN. Dec. 4. Cricket was played in atrocious conditions in Dunedin on Saturday. Wickets were exceedingly soft, outfields heavy, and there were frequent showers throughout the afternoon. But in spite of the weather some of the play was exciting. A feature of the series, the fifth in the competition, was the defeat of Grange, the top team, by Dunedin, the bottom team. Dunedin won by three wickets after hitting the winning run off the last ball qf the final over for the day. The eighth century of the competition was posted on Saturday. B. Sutcliffe making 132. his second century of the season, for North-East Valley against Albion. At the half-way stage in the competition, University leads from Kaikorai with Grange now in third place and Carisbrook fourth.
Results on Saturday were: Dunedin. 89 and 138 for seven wickets (R. Hendry 48), beat Grange, 77 and 149 (F. J. Cameron six for 34), by three wickets.
Carisbrook, 210 (P. McMillan five for 39), beat Old Boys, 109 and 78 (R. Macdpnnell five for 27), by an innings and 23 runs. Kaikorai, 105 and 184 • for nine declared (A. E. Dick 71, L. Watt 52: J. Bray seven for 60), beat University, 103 and 140 for six wickets, by two runs on the first innings. Albion, 224 and 72 for two wickets, beat North-East Valley, 69 (L. D. Smith five for • 14) and 266 for six declared (B. Sutcliffe 132) by 155 runs on the first innings.
