Transfer Planned To New Guinea

The Dutch Defence Minister (Mr Simon Visser' told Parliament today that the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe (General Lauris Norstad) had agreed to the withdrawal of Dutch troops from Europe for the purpose of strengthening Dutch defences in Dutch New Guinea.

Mr Visser replied to yesterday’s debate on a Government proposal to increase the defence budget for the years 1961-1963 by 200 million guilders (£19,040.000) to 1850 million guilders (£176,100,000).
