WIRE PULLING

In one year more than ♦ 260,000 miles of wire is drawn and more than 38,000 miles of insulated cable produced. Christchurch accounts for more than four-fifths of the Dominion production in this field of industry. The products range from fine 05in diameter wires for wiring radio and television devices and slightly bigger ones for fitting into electric blankets, to hefty three-core cables for laying underground to carry supplies into big factories. Gaily coloured insulations show thaT copper is not the sole material used in these products; in fact, cable makers are among the biggest users of plastics, which have proven ideal for this use.
