Lawn Cemetery

Sir, —Who is responsible for the condition of the Lawn Cemetery? During the last year I have heard several people remark that it was a disgrace, especially at Christmas time, when, though the grass was supposed to be mown, grass (wild oats and barley) could be found going to seed in many places. My main complaint is that, although there are dozens of graves in all parts of the cemetery that have “fallen in” nothing is done to fill them in again. In my own case, I took soil there twice to bring the ground up to level, but there are many buried there who have no-one to care for their resting places.—Yours, etc LAWN CEMETERY. June 17, 1960. [The Town Clerk <Mr H. S. Feast) said:—“The letter signed “Lawn Cemetery’ was referred to the director of reserves (Mr Gilpin) who states that his department is very conscious of the necessity to improve the surface at the lawn cemetery and work in that direction commenced early this month.”]
