Bankrupt Meets Creditors

When Thomas George Howard, a factory worker, was questioned at a meeting of his creditors yesterday, he said he could make no offer to pay anything in reduction of his debts at present As soon as he got a job he would do something about it. Howard was adjudged bankrupt on June 10. The Official Assignee (Mr E. G. Tyler) said that Howard's statement of affairs showed his debts as £670 5s and his assets as £l3 5s including £lO worth of furniture. There were nine unsecured creditors, the main debt being £5OO for maintenance due to his wife. There was a secured creditor for £25. Howard’s reasons for his bankruptcy were that he was forced to change his jobs and also that he was keeping two homes going. Howard told the meeting he was out of a job at present and was trying to get one. He had been on a low wage of £lO 4s a week for a time.

“You have a car. You paid £45 deposit on it,” said a creditor.

Howard said it belonged to another man who had given him the money for the deposit This man had the car but he did not know his private address. Mr Tyler asked Howard if he was prepared to make any offer to his creditors. Howard said he could make no offer at present but as soon as he got a job he would do something.
