Bigger Model Volkswagen

WHEN the Volkswagen factory " recently confirmed rumours that it is to produce a big brother for the present model, it made sure that not the slightest detail of the new car was available to its competitors. All that is known is that the car will be bigger, more powerful, and considerably more expensive. In outward appearance it will not match the present Volkswagen, but will retain the outstandingly successful aircooled engine at the rear and sturdy chassis construction. No date has been given for the announcement of the new car.

The decision to make a bigger model is regarded principally as a reflection of the rising purchasing power of the German consumer. As regards the present Volkswagens, any rumour of a change is idle speculation. The directorgeneral of the Volkswagenwerk, Professor Heinz Nordoff, repeats that his philosophy is simple—when you have found a good thing, stick to it. Even though the Volkswagen design is almost 30 years old, there are waiting lists in almost every country in the world.
