Fendalton Branch Function

(From Our Parliamentary Reporter* WELLINGTON, June 23

A reference to a function conducted by the Fendalton branch of the Junior National Party was made by Mr N. E. Kirk (Government, Lyttelton) in a written question addressed to the Minister of Education (Mr Skoglund) in the House of Representatives this afternoon.

Mr Kirk asked whether “since a paper has been laid on the table of the House which shows that the National Party has extended its membership recruiting activities to post-primary school, the Minister will consider the necessity of ensuring that parents are fully informed of the type of activities conducted by the National Party for adolescents.’’

A note to the question said that on April 23 the Fendalton electorate’s junior branch of the National Party had organised a pyjama party for young boys and girls in the National Party rooms, Christchurch.

There was some laughter when the question was read out, and the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Holyoake) interjected: “Was Princess Margaret there?’’
