POLICEMEN SHIFTED
Complaints Made By Lawyer “Ttie Press" Special service WELLINGTON. June 22. Two police constables at the Kaitaia station have been transferred after complaints from a local lawyer of lack of co-opera-tion and obstruction A police officer sent to Kaitaia to investigate the complaints recommended the move. There had been no dismissals, said the Commissioner of Police (Mr W. S. Brown). “But one of the men concerned has been transferred to Whangarei and the other to Auckland,” he said. “We decided that it was in the best interests of the department to do this ”
There are normally five policemen at Kaitaia—four constables and a sergeant. Mr Brown said the sergeant had been ill for some time and this had in part contributed to the trouble.
When approached, the Minister of Police (Mr Connolly) said he knew nothing of the matter. It seemed to be one for internal police administration. After checking, however, he said: “We do not want any difficulties with the legal profession. We have merely decided to put some fresh blood into Kaitaia.”
