Mr W. Bremner was yesterday appointed director of surgery by the North Canterbury Hospital Board.

Chief Petty Officer A. R. Taylor, the Royal New Zealand Navy’s South Island recruiter based in Christchurch, will retire from the service in August. His relief will be Chief Petty Officer A. E G. Gilmour, of Auckland The two men were shipmates in H.M.N.Z.S. Taupo during the frigate’s tour of duty on active service in the Korean War.

Dr. M. H. Aiken has resign from the position of senior visiting physician to the North Canterbury Hospital Board. With Mr J. K Davidson and Dr. C. Stenhouse. Dr Aiken was appointed to the honorary consultant staff by the board yesterday Mr O T Gorrie, manager of the British Traders' Insurance Company, Ltd., at Christchurch fo» the last 14 years, will retire on June 30. He will b' succeeded by Mr F. H. Jackson, formerly manager at Dunedin Mr J. M. Bremner was appointed assistant visiting surgeon and Mr R. D. Suckling assistant visiting ophthalmologist by the North Canterbury Hospital Board yesterday.
