Two Life Members Elected
More than 65,000 books were issued last year, said the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr G. Manning) when he presented the annual report at the twenty-fourth annual meeting of the Opawa Public Library last evening. Life membership was granted to Mrs M. Taylor and Mrs M. Anderson. They will also become life members of the Canterbury Public Library, or any other suburban library should they move to another district.
“These two women should be a great asset to the library, for they have a great knowledge of all types of books,” said Mr Manning.
The following officers were elected:—patron, the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr G. Manning); president, Mrs E. Lulham; vicepresident, Mr R. Coveney; secretary, Mrs A. Williamson; treasurer, Mrs W. Forrester; typist, Mrs B. Brown; book buyer and magazine secretary, Mrs E. Lulham; cataloguers, Mesdames M. Evans and D. Hughes; management committee, Mesdames E- Lulham, M. Evans, M. Forrester, M. Tulley, M. Taylor, G. Eastwick, J. Moore, J. Carter, M. Anderson, B. Brown, D. Hughes, A. Bourne, E. McMillan, D. Krahagann, H. Read, W. Taylor and A. Williamson, Misses J. Miller, M. Hight, and G- Davidson, Messrs G. Hight, D. Hughes, J. Loader, R. Coveney, S. Manning, D. TimbrelL T. Hansen, and N. Knox; trustees, Mesdames E. Lulham, M. Forrester, A. Williamson; auditors, Messrs A. Hill and J. M. White.
5000 Trees.—More than 5000 trees of 72 varieties have been made available by the Wellington Beautifying Society to private and public bodies for beautifying purposes.
