ALGERIAN TALKS
First Snag In Plans
(Rec. 10.30 p.m.) PARIS, June 22. The first snag in moves towards an Algeria cease fire was confirmed early today when the French Government announced that it had ordered the pilot of a special plane sent to Tunis to fly an insurgent envoy to Paris to return to France. The information bureau of the “Algerian provisional Government’’ in Tunis said yesterday that the envoy would go to Paris “in the next few days” to prepare the way for preliminary talks between the insurgent leaders and the French Government.
It added that agreement had still to be reached on details of his trip, and the insurgents “could not consider” a French Embassy offer to arrange the envoy’s travel. It is not known how the envoy will travel to Paris.
The French communique announcing the pilot’s recall was issued after night consultations at the Elysee Palace between President de Gaulle and the Prime Minister. Mr Michel Debre. Official spokesmen said the Government was awaiting further information and the arrival of the insurgent envoy was not believed to be imminent.
The envoy has already been appointed by the Insurgents, but his name is not known.
