ANTARCTIC TREATY
Senate Group Approves
WASHINGTON, June 21
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee today unanimously approved the Antarctic Treaty pledging scientific co-operation among 12 nations and banning military weapons from the south polar continent. The committee chairman, Senator William Fulbright, announced after a closed meeting of his group that there had been no objections to the pact. A committee source said it was unlikely that the treaty would be presented to the full Senate for ratification before next week. The nations which signed the agreement in Washington last December 1 after lengthy negotiations were the United States Britain .the Soviet Union. France Australia, New Zealand, South Africa. Norway, Belgium, Japan. Argentina and Chile.
