Shortage Of Suitable* Ponds For Fry
The fish committee had ogreedb drat all of the 400,000 rainbqjJj' trout ova ordered for the seasonl should be hatched at GreenparW; said Mr P. G. Ellis at a meetiAK of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society council. Mr Ellis said that one difficult might be the shortage of suitable ponds for the rainbow fry arid asked the council to look for ponds that could be used. \ There had always been trouble with pond sites, said Mr G. W Thompson. Over the last tert years, no really satisfactory pond had been found. The meeting was told that from April 20 to May IS, a total of 2625 fish had passed over the trap in the Selwyn river. Of these. 1569 were placed above the trap and 1056 had been tranMerred upstream to Coalgate. / The meeting agreed to a suggestion by Mr J. Foote that some of the fish be transferred to thb Rakaia lagoon to restock the water there. ‘ ''
