COUNTRY GIRLS’ CLUBS

Miss J. Stalker presided at a recent meeting of the Christchurch district committee of Country Girls’ Clubs and welcomed two delegates from the Young Farmers’ Clubs. Reports were received from the Darfield, Ellesmere, Lincoln, Sheffield and Waihora clubs. The secretary (Miss E. Hart) told the meeting that the Ashburton club had been narrowly beaten by the Eastern Southland club in the South Island final of the debating contest. A visit to a Christchurch factory was arranged for July 27. It was announced that the Ellesmere club was organising a table tennis tournament for August 24. Miss Stalker gave a report on the Canterbury final of the radio leadership competition, in which Miss M. Ford, of South Canterbury, gained most points.
