DESIGNED BY PRINCESS MARGARET.—This is part of a Spode china tea-set made by a British firm to an original design by Princess Margaret. The decoration is one of panels of gold-edged, pastel-grey feathers on a royal-blue background. Gold is also applied to handles and rims. In June, 1957, the managing-director of the firm that produces Spode china was called to Clarence House, where the Princess showed him her finely-coloured drawings of the tea-set. From these, the pieces were modelled, each piece being taken to Clarence House for approval of the shape before decorating was begun.
