War Amputees
Sir,—“Lame Duck” obviously has an axe to grind and puts his case very well, but I think the “I’m all right. Jack” attitude applies to war amputees as well as to most other people. Most amputees that I know seem to have mastered their disabilities very successfully and appear to live well above the bread line, if not in real affluence. There are many returned servicemen who, although their war scars are not so obvious, have suffered severely nevertheless, but are not entitled to a pension.—Yours, etc. SERVICEMAN’S WIFE. June 8, 1960.
