NEW PRESIDENT ELECTED

School Committees’ Association

Mr H. C. Anderson (Wharenui) was elected president of the Canterbury School Committees’ Association on Wednesday evening Other officers elected were:— vice-presidents, Mrs G. E. Boyd (Lyttelton) and Mr C. W. Memory (Shirley); immediate past-president, Mr E. F. Wilde (North New Brighton); secretary, Mr R. W. Taylor (Linwood avenue); treasurer, Mr N. W. Burrell (Fendalton); auditor, Mr A. Lightfoot (Linwood avenue); executive, Mesdames G. Metcalf (Waltham) and M. Rae (Christchurch East), Messrs J. R. McClintock, J. Palmer (Burwood). R. K. Milne (Wharenui), R. J. Mouat (Burnside). A. C. W. McIntosh (North Canterbury); representative on Town Hall Promotion, Mr Wilde; representative on Metropolitan Road Safety Committee and on Canterbury Mental Health Council. Mr Taylor. The association paid tribute to two of its longest-standing members. Mr A. Greenwood, who retired recently after 19 years as secretary and 25 years’ membership of the association, received presentations of a modern rocking chair for his wife and a gold wristlet watch for himself in appreciation of outstanding services. Mr C. S. Thompson retired from office after 42 years as treasurer and 44 years’ membership- As no notice of his intention was received, tributes will be paid later.
